| The Magma Foundry consists of Jimm Myers and Jim McClurg both with the Department of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Wyoming. | ||
![]() | The original concept for The Magma Foundry was developed by Jimm Myers, who has used a Web component in his courses since 1993 when he had to spend class time introducing students and TAs to the Web and Web browsers. Since that time, he has used more and more Web components in his introductory, non-majors geology classes. In addition to HTML expertise, Jimm has extensive training in relational databases, JavaScript and VBScript and Active Server Page programming. Using these technologies, he has created a customized Classroom Management System (CMS) that handles the logistics of all of his classes. In recent years, he has expanded his interest to cover Flash, QuickTime and Acrobat PDF development.
| Jimm designed the relational database that is the heart of The Magma Foundry as well as the Web site's graphic layout. He is also responsible for all the Flash, QuickTime and Acrobat development. | ||
![]() | Jim McClurg brings an extensive and varied educational background to The Magma Foundry. Jim has won every major teaching award at the University of Wyoming and has used innovative (both traditional and technology-based) approaches to his teaching. He was a pioneer in classroom technology use long before the Web was conceived. His early technology-aided instructional innovations revolved around the implementation of hypercard programs. Unlike the other Jimm however, this Jim does not get involved with the actual nuts and bolts of the technology behind the scenes (probably why the two Jims work so well together).
| Jim critiques, evaluates and tests all the material produced by The Magma Foundry and provides feedback on design and functionality. In addition, he often provides the preliminary concept for many of the ingots produced. | ||
